Owning a dog means you have a fluffy buddy to keep you company, but it’s also a big responsibility.
The RSPCA says dogs need physical exercise every day, which means there’s never a day when your dog should go without a walk.
If your schedule makes that difficult, you might find Paw Shake helpful.
It’s an app you can use to find a dog-walker when you’re busy – and to offer your own time to walk other people’s dogs when you’re free.
It might seem a bit scary to entrust your dog to a stranger, but the company behind Paw Shake says it does its best to provide clients with experienced dog walkers.
Checks are done on prospective dog walkers, and the Paw Shake community receives “informative articles, tips for best practice and regular email updates”, a company spokesperson told Hatch.
“We are also constantly working to interview all of our pet sitters individually to assess their pet care experience and motivations on the site.”
University student Alex Witty regularly walks dogs for Paw Shake and says it’s a great way to make money when she’s studying.
“My university hours make it hard to find a regular job,” she says.
“Paw Shake is such an easy way to make some extra cash around my university classes.”
Alex rarely sees her own dog in country Victoria, as most landlords wouldn’t allow her to have the animal in rented accommodation.
“This job allows me to still hang-out with dogs while missing my own, so it helps,” she says.
