Thousands of Sydney foodies will flock to the Good Food and Wine Show this weekend. SAMANTHA JURMAN and NAOMI FERREIRA went along to find out what all the fuss is about.
This year celebrity chefs Matt Moran, Miguel Maestre, Maggie Beer, George Calombaris, Colin Fassnidge and Kylie Kwong will be cooking live and offering their tips and tricks on everything food and wine.
It is expected at least 50,000 food and wine fans will walk through the doors to be catered to by 500 exhibitors and 250 food and wine stalls showcasing some of the country’s best produce.
A full range of foods and beverages are on offer, including boutique meats, jams and specialty wines.
One of the stalls at today’s opening was premium meats company Goose on the Loose.
Mitch Roach, from Goose on the Loose, said they started out five years ago marinating olives and then moved onto developing premium meats, and are now known for their salamis made from pork, kangaroo and duck.
“We started with 100kg batches and now develop up to 5-10 tons a month,” he said.
The firm now suppliers to 90 delis, wine and cheese stores in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
Over at The Smelly Cheese Shop manager Dianna Battistella was educating visitors on how to cook different cheeses.
One popular sampler at the stall was the traditional Italian cheese Caciocavallo, which can be scraped onto toasted bread topped with home-made chilli honey and freshly squeezed lemon.
“The take out gets bigger every year,” Dianna told Hatch. “This is the 6th consecutive year we have participated and it is better every time with more foods and more quality.”
Susan Bournes, 70, and Lisa Matthews, 49, travelled down from Chittaway Bay on the Central Coast for the show.
“We come every year because it’s just a great day out enjoying exactly what the show is called – good food and wine,” said Susan.
Lisa added: “I come for the cheese. It’s hard to find the range they have here and the service anywhere else.”
The Good Food and Wine Show runs until June 23 at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour. For tickets click HERE.
