American fashion designer Kate Spade has been found dead in her New York apartment.
Reports state that the 55-year-old was found unresponsive by a housekeeper at 11am (1am AEST) in the bedroom of her Manhattan apartment. Her death is being investigated as a suspected suicide.
According to News.com.au, NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea told reporters, “At this point, there was a note left. The contents of that note, as well as the physical state of the apartment and the comments of the witness, lend to the credibility that it is an apparent suicide.”
Social media has been flooded with admiration for her legacy and a call to action for suicide prevention.
My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college. I still have it. Holding Kate’s family, friends and loved ones in my heart.

I decided to wear head-to-toe Kate Spade to an event tonight to honor her contributions to fashion and women in business.
